Getting to Know
Elephant Butte, New Mexico
Elephant Butte reservoir is
the largest recreational lake in the state of New Mexico. Like
many large reservoirs in the southwest, Elephant Butte has great fishing
and water recreation. In addition to the great water sport options,
is a climate that is hard to beat. Year-round golf, sunshine throughout
most of the year, no hurricanes, etc… make the area a desirable place
to escape from it all. Many are finding that Elephant Butte
has what they are looking for in a location for a second home
or as a retirement destination.
Named for the large butte (a
rock formation rising sharply above the surrounding land) at the
south end of the lake. At certain times of the day the butte resembles
an kneeling elephant. Until recently, Elephant Butte was only
on the mind of New Mexico and Arizona locals looking for a great lake
destination for their vacation weekends. With other great retirement
locations becoming extremely expensive, Elephant Butte is being recognized
for the potential destination it can become.
Also, with the creation of
the first major spaceport just to the south-east, Elephant Butte may
become a living destination for scientists, engineers, business owners,
and entrepreneurs relocating to the area to participate in the innovations
that will come as the privatized space industry takes shape.
Elephant Butte as an Investment - Land and Homes
Recreation, Beauty, Unbelievable Climate, Great Golfing, a Spaceport, NASCAR!!! What More Could you Want?
Elephant Butte Reservoir is the State of New Mexico's largest recreational
lake. Though it gets very crouded during three of the major recreational holidays
each year, generally the Elephant Butte is a very nice, peaceful place. Some
even call it a little piece of paradise. As always happens with paradises, they
get discovered, and that is definately happening here. Elephant Butte has been
one of the leading appreciating markets for homes or land in New Mexico during the past two years.
Though prices have risen dramatically over the past two years, they are still
very reasonable when compared to most any other little paradise with similar
qualities. You can get 1+ acre lots in a secluded prestigious community for
anywhere from $89,000 to $250,000. In other areas, you can buy land and lots
for as little as $30,000 with city utilities. Those prices aren't exactly standing still,
especially with the anticipated construction of the Spaceport and the Hot Springs Motorplex.
Those prestigious lots used to go for$42,000 - $75,000 and the smaller lots with city utilities sold
for $20,000 not very long ago. New or newer homes range from $170,000 up to $500,000. Elephant
Butte is a great place to invest in a home or land as the retirement influx
continues and as a new job market begins with the creation of the new New Mexico
Spaceport and the new Motorplex. Elephant Butte will continue to redefine itself and prices in the
coming years will reflect that.
