 Getting to Know
Truth Or Consequences
This area is still somewhat
of a good kept secret, but that is changing very quickly. If you
were to drive by the area, you would see the unattractive, unsightly,
and unkempt manufactured homes from the freeway and possibly drive right
on by. What you would miss is the new golf resort and community
being developed that is just out of sight. You would also miss
the new developments that are in the works that will help transform
Truth or Consequences from what it is, to what it will soon become.
Recently a major developer
who is now building the largest community in this area described to
my colleague the reason that they moved out here and decided to take
part in building in New Mexico. Coming from Breckenridge, Colorado
where they made a name for themselves as an upscale developer often
associated with golf course communities, the company wanted to expand
their operations into a second state. They envisioned that Arizona
would be that place based on their beautiful golf courses in gorgeous
desert settings. While driving over to Arizona to explore the
state for possible future development, they passed through New Mexico.
They were so taken with the little bit of New Mexico that they saw,
they felt let down when the reached Arizona. “Arizona just didn’t
fit what we thought it would be. We found New Mexico had that
unique setting that we were looking for”.
This developer is now building
a beautiful 1,200 home golf course community at Turtleback Mountain
Resort in the heart of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. If you
haven’t heard of it yet, you will hear of it more in the future.
It is described by this builder and others as truly a diamond in the
rough.
The phrase above is used skillfully
by those who say it, because if you know when diamonds are discovered
in the rough, they are not very shiny, and need some polishing and cleaning
up. Truth or Consequences is going through that and will one day
be breathtakingly beautiful and unfortunately also be a very expensive
place to live. The reason real estate is so reasonable here still
is because there is still a lot of old development that has not yet
been made what it could be. But because of its history, fantastic
climate, and its location next to the major recreational lake in the
state, this town will one day reach its potential and will be a gleaming
polished diamond that attracts visitors from everywhere.
